Clinical trials for Ebola vaccin starting soon in West Africa

For the very first time, candidate Ebola treatments are to be assessed for efficacy and safety in humans with Ebola. Collaboration with multiple partners around the world, including the International Severe Acute Respiratory and Emerging Infections Consortium (ISARIC), the University of Oxford, Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), the World Health Organization (WHO), Institut Pasteur, Institut Pasteur de Dakar, Fondation Mérieux and the Global Health Network, will allow the fast and ethical implementation of clinical trials in existing Ebola treatment centres.

The study is funded by the Wellcome Trust and led by Dr. Peter Horby of the Centre for Tropical Medicine and Global Health at the University of Oxford and ISARIC. Peter is also responsible for the observational clinical studies in PREPARE.
This will be the first study testing several potential interventions for efficacy and safety in humans with Ebola. It is a huge challenge for Peter to coordinate such a clinical trials platform and to carry out clinical trials under such difficult conditions, and we wish him all the best and success.
Congratulations Peter!
