First autochthonous WNV case in Germany
First autochthonous human West Nile virus (WNV) infection reported in Germany in October. The total number of human cases of WNV reported during the ongoing 2019 transmission season by EU Member States and neighbouring countries are 404 and 39 deaths due to WNV (ECDC surveillance data, as of 3 Oct. 2019).  

EU Member States reported 372 cases in Greece (215), Romania (57), Italy (40), Hungary (32), Cyprus (16), Austria (4), Bulgaria (4), France (2), Germany (1), Slovakia (1). EU neighbouring countries reported 32 human cases in Serbia (20), Turkey (7) and North Macedonia (5).
